FECCLAHA expresses its deepest sympathy and support to its member, the Church of Christ in Congo
(ECC) and the larger population in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) following the escalation of violent conflicts in North Kivu, Eastern DRC. Additionally, FECCLAHA expresses concern that the rapid deterioration of the situation in North Kivu could spiral to largescale instability across the country and destabilize the region and heighten cross-border instability.
FECCLAHA condemns all acts of violence and atrocities meted on civilians and calls on all parties to the conflict to have restrain and advance all actions to end the ongoing violent conflict and jointly work toward peace, safety and dignity of the people.
FECCLAHA calls on Regional Governments and Actors to immediately take diplomatic action to urgently facilitate safe and free movement of the refugees, and the protection of humanitarian
workers ferrying and providing medical and humanitarian assistance to the civilians. EFECCLAHA further calls on all intervening agencies to ensure that innocent people are protected in accordance with the Geneva Convention on International Humanitarian Law.
FECCLAHA further calls on the international community to respond to the imminent humanitarian crisis with speed so as to reduce suffering to the civilians, those displaced by the conflict, as well as those
trapped in their occupied cities and villages.
The ecumenical body urges the African Union (AU) to hasten the Quadripartite Summit as the coordinating agency to harmonize both the Nairobi and Luanda processes toward a common agenda for sustainable solutions to the conflict.
Lastly, FECCLAHA appeals to the global and regional faith leaders join in urgent corporate prayers for the spirit of wisdom and grace in the quest for restoration of peace in the country and join in the advocacy for peace in the region.
